Our upcycled clothing story

Who are we?

We are sisters and best friends. Always inseparable, always in a package. Ela is a designer and our creative core. Asia is the head of our marketing and takes care of back of house business. We always knew that we want to work together but for a long time we couldn’t find right field to both develop professionally. Together we create Laconie- our indipendent handmade upcycled clothing brand.

Short message from Ela:

I knew from the age of five that I wanted to be a fashion designer. I drew my first designs, watched catwalks on TV with delight. Fashion is fascinating and inspiring. It can be an art. I founded Laconie in 2019 out of the need of my heart, seeing from up close working for high street brands how the processes of creating clothes are multidimensionally harmful. As a designer of the young generation, I feel responsible for the origin, sources and the process in which the product is made. I wanted to create an alternative to buying and show that there are other - more sustainable methods than those we are used to. I strongly believe that a profound change must take place in our shopping and lifestyle habits to leave this planet guilt-free for future generations. For me sustainability is now taking an action to reuse already existing stuff. Doing less harm is not enough. Upcycling and recycling is future of fashion.

Few words from Asia:

I was never into fashion. I used to be a person who bought a lot of stuff compulsively and carelessly. I studied project management and when Ela shared with me facts about reality of fashion industry I finally found a place for myself in Laconie. It is not just to promote our brand but by doing that show public that we can still enjoy fashion and stay climate positive. I realized that we have to take social responsibility, make an impact and find independent solution to reclaim and rework what already exists and give 2nd chance with a high standard of ethics. I feel the mission to create more sustainable future. Now it’s time to reclaim what has been abandoned. P.S. Personally I’m the biggest fan of Laconie’s shirt. 

Why LACONIE?

The name comes from the word laconic. Simplicity, minimalism and balance are hidden behind this word for us. From a symbolic point of viewthe letters contained in this word, our surname is formed – CINAL.

UPCYCLED MATERIALS

Great materials have already been created even in much better quality then nowadays. We reuse existing, forgotten materials. Today, the fabrics and knitted fabrics produced for clothing are often not as durable and durable as they used to be. Vintage fabrics are not only unique, but also often have quirky patterns. We bringing them back to life into modern fits with gratitude to fabric past.

LIMITED ITEMS

Small production only. The use of upcycled resources is associated with limited access to fabrics. Each material is treated individually. Only one piece or small batches. All create items in universal ONE SIZE only.

INDEPENDENT CONCEPT

The idea was to develop timeless and seasonless easy-to-wear clothes and accessories with functional solutions like pockets or waist regulation. Products are oversized in ONE SIZE. Our bodies change over the course of our lives. We get on weight, we lose weight, we can be pregnant - do we have to replace the entire wardrobe with each change? Laconie gives a chance to build a universal timeless capsule wardrobe.

ZERO WASTE

We create pattern cuts in a conscious way. We cut materials to use as much available fabric as possible. Our design are reconsidered from all sides. We reduce waste with a ruler in our hands. 

HANDMADE

All products are handmade, created with high standard of ethics at the moment with Ela’s own hands in our small workshop. All of them were made with lots of love. Sometimes local artisans support our indivual heavy duties ideas. Behind every single item stands individual fabric story and original concept from material-inspiration-design and finally one-of-a kind garment.   

CLIMATE POSSITIVE PACKAGING

We say NO to plastic. All branding elements are biodegradable. We using recycled paper tape to keep parcel safe. Tags and other branding pieces like sticker are made from recycled paper. Natural cord and cardboard box is safe to compost, reuse it again or recycle. Circular process- let's give back to nature what we took. FREE REPAIR SERVICE We will repair our product for free. If, for example you will burn a hole,burn it with an iron or create a permanent stain. In that case, please contact us and we will find a solution together to extend the life of your favourite garment in your wardrobe.
